VEHI - Vermont Education Health Initiative
What is VEHI?
The Vermont Education Health Initiative (VEHI) is a large, non-profit purchaser of health care plans for Vermont's school employees. This self-funded trust is managed jointly by the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust (VSBIT) and the Vermont-National Education Association (Vermont-NEA). Claims administration and related services are currently purchased from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont.
Thriving!
How does VEHI help schools to create and maintain cultures of wellness?

VEHI provides training to district Champions and School Building Wellness Leaders three times each year.  Our Health Promotion Consultant provides support and training to your wellness teams and administrators.  Communications materials describing benefits information are sent to schools and subscriber homes and we partner with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont, Invest EAP and PATH, LLC to provide a world-class health promotion program.

VEHI has provided funding for many projects in Vermont schools over the last several years, including:
  • the purchase of exercise equipment, some at a discounted rate negotiated by VEHI (snowshoes and gymsticks are just a couple of examples);
  • the creation, renovation or updating of staff rooms, quiet areas;
  • health, exercise and nutrition classes
  • part- and full-time district Wellness Staff to maintain and promote personal wellness throughout the year; and
  • items to address health and safety concerns, including hands-free sinks, HEPA vaccuums, and lighting products.
